Peck Center Historic Preservation

Peck Center is a historic high school originally constructed in 1885 and underwent a State of Florida grant-funded masonry restoration. Walker was engaged by the City of Fernandina Beach to perform historic preservation and masonry restoration design services for Peck Center. This included compliance with National Park Service & Secretary of the Interior Historic reservation Standards and Guidelines, 36 CFR 67.

Walker was able to develop design documents suitable for historic review board approval by incorporating contractor’s historic product submittals, including both historic mortar and brick analysis test results, to achieve state grant funding and also continues to assist with active construction administration site visits and project documentation. The project was a design-build approach with a qualified restoration contractor.

Walker completed the project balancing dual priorities of historic preservation and masonry performance/durability.
