- Forensic investigation after a hurricane
CLIENT
Walker was engaged to investigate the damage from Hurricane Maria to the Coco Beach Golf Resort and Residences on the resort’s buildings and their components.
The property includes a Clubhouse and Cart Barn (circa 2004), and seven 5-story buildings (circa 2009). The hospitality complex has residential apartments, commercial retail and offices and is constructed of reinforced concrete frames and masonry walls with reinforced concrete floor slabs, modified bitumen flat roofs and clay-tiled hip roofs, and aluminum framed door and window systems and cement plaster cladding.
Walker conducted a forensic investigation to assist owner client in post-hurricane recovery and repairs. Specifically, Walker investigated hurricane damage of roofs, parapets, exterior cladding, fenestrations, and interior finishes. Walker identified wind damage and breaches in building envelope as well as ensuing wind and water damage to interiors. Also, we analyzed wind pressures and effects on components and cladding.
Walker provided expert opinion on cause and extent of damage to the resort and residences, facilitating their hurricane recovery. We recommended and coordinated repairs with contractor for roofing, window and door systems (frame, glass, gasket, caulking), exterior plaster, interior wall and floor finishes.
