Walker provided prime design, functional design/consulting, and structural engineering for the 5-level Module 4 West and East structures at Denver International Airport (DIA).
The West structure contains 1,650 spaces and was built with a precast, pre-stressed concrete structure. The East structure contains 1,800 spaces and uses a cast-in-place post-tensioned structural system. Both structures use a precast concrete architectural spandrel façade designed to be similar appearance to the existing parking structures.
Walker used a streamlined design-build approach to deliver the Module 4 East structure with cost savings and a shorter schedule. This was DIA’s first design-build project, and was one of the largest design-build projects ever undertaken at a U.S. airport.
The Module 4 East structure includes a combined vehicle and pedestrian bridge to connect it to the existing Module 3 East. The primary vehicle access point to the structure is a bridge connecting to the existing elevated circulatory access road.
